Can design be ugly?
Now I know you must be wondering what I’m talking about, but it’s a serious question – Can design be ugly and still be categorized as design.
I’m going to give you a site url which I want you to visit, and when you finish keep in mind all the thoughts that crossed your mind as you surfed the site – http://www.drudgereport.com/
Now that you have visited the site, you must be wondering what I’m trying to say here. What I’m trying to say here is that design is not only about visual beauty (Though that is what we most often look for and relate ‘design’ to), but much more. And I have been enlightened to this fact and concept.
Jason Reid, one of the authors at 37signals.com has given us a lot to think about in his article “Why the Drudge Report is on of the best designed sites on the web“.
You may be thinking “What’s this guy talking about? The Drudge Report is no way close to a well-designed site”. Just the thing I thought when I visited the site. Put aside all that you ‘think’ you know about design and read this article, you are surely going to come out wiser – design wise.
